Michelle Jennings leads every project personally, from the discovery call to the day the house is finished. She is a design graduate of the University of Florida's College of Architecture and an Allied Member of ASID, with more than 25 years of design experience, and she founded MJ Designs in 2004. The studio has been named Best of Houzz for design in nine years between 2014 and 2023.

Michelle calls it warm minimalism. Rooms are intentional and edited, with quality over quantity and every piece chosen with purpose. Her one word for it is balance: a home that functions and feels good, expressive, not excessive. Art often starts the project, and bold wall color is used with confidence.

The studio is at 1609 Dr. MLK Jr. St. N., Suite C, St. Petersburg, FL 33704, open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. We work throughout St. Petersburg, including Snell Isle, Old Northeast, Shore Acres, Bayou Grande, Brightwaters and downtown; in Tampa, including Hyde Park, Bayshore and Parkland Estates; on St. Pete Beach and the Gulf beaches; and in Belleair, Tierra Verde and the wider Tampa Bay area.

We begin with a complimentary discovery call by Zoom, in which Michelle listens and comes to know how you live. Then come the plan for the house, a design direction and selections presented for your approval. The studio manages ordering and the work through to installation, with regular status updates along the way. Each stage is described on our process page.

Every home is different, so there is no set figure. The discovery call is the place to talk through your scope, your timing and what you hope to invest.

Yes. For a renovation, we lay out a systematic plan through flooring, tile, plumbing fixtures and lighting, and design the cabinetry and built-ins to suit. The Brightwaters and Belleair kitchens, the Bayshore baths and the primary bath at Yacht Club Estates are all in our portfolio.

Michelle presents furniture options for your approval, and the studio handles ordering, tracking, receiving and returns. All of the furniture is delivered on one day under her direction. The art is hung, the accessories are placed and the candles are lit when you come home.

Yes. Art often starts the project. Michelle builds rooms around the work clients love, pairs bold wall color with striking art and designs built-ins around collections. She also curates original art with clients, working with local galleries.

Yes. Michelle is a third-generation St. Petersburg resident and is glad to tell newcomers about the city past and present: the historic neighborhoods, restaurants and boutiques, museums and art, and schools. Planning can begin before you arrive, so the house is well on its way when you do.

Yes. A systematic approach and regular status updates mean less travel to the job site for clients planning from afar. We meet by Zoom, present selections for your approval and handle ordering, tracking and receiving, so you can follow the project from wherever you are.
